Autotrader 'Expert'?

Postby Neil-K » Wed Jul 26, 2017 7:29 am

So according to Jim Holder the 'expert' on 'Good Morning Scotland' today; electric vehicles have half the range when it is cold.

This was quite a surprise to me as I have not seen this effect. 10 to 15% yes. 50% no.

Would it be reasonable to assume that Autotrader don't know their subject area and might do well to do real research than just sit around watching re-runs of 'Top Gear'?

I think this is him? https://twitter.com/Jim_Holder If that is him I would have tweeted him myself, but I didn't see the segment.

I wonder if he has ever even driven a BEV ? Some days in winter you get half the charging speed on a Rapid (in some cars such as the Leaf). Of course that does not equate to half the range.

As a general statement it is misleading, as each vehicle is different, but I've experience my usual 90m rage dropping to 44m in winter with temp at -3C, so in that case it was accurate.
