CCS Reliability

Postby Chunkybuns » Tue Nov 19, 2019 10:46 am

OK, had the Kona for about a year now so I feel suitably qualified to say that CHADEMO is without doubt a more reliable charging system.

I would estimate my experiance of failures with Chademo during my four years with the Leaf to be about 15-20%

So far I would say my average failure rate on CCS appears to be around 75%

That is simply not sustainable for a reliable service.

Once word gets around people will use it asa stick to beat us with. SG need to get a grip of this and penalise CPS for lack of performance.

Could you offer more info on the issues? The CCS standard is much 'looser' than CHAdeMO, but the chargepoint manufacturers do conduct regular standards tests, Charin offer a testival for them and the OEMs. eVolt are actively testing with Circontrol, but CCS to my mind is still an immature standard.

Not sure what TS and CPS could do onthis, as the issues appear to lie outside their control. Either way, details of any error codes, as well as dates and time of failure to provide to charger manufacturers will help diagnose and possibly identify issues.
